everyone has their limitation... still I think in the 1930s, given his lived experience and the information available to him, it's understandable even though not defensible. in today's world those actively denying certain things despite abundant information are far worse...

no one's using typesetting software to type a post on X, Instagram, or LinkedIn. so the emdashes stand out for me in those contexts. I think that's a natural reaction. not that I'm against the em dash itself or anything.

left: BBC, used hyphens & en dashes for linking sentences
right: Guardian, used en dashes for linking sentences
outside of AI you really don't see em dashes that often, which is why they stand out.
