There’s a neighbourhood cat who visits our shop multiple times a day. Can confirm he thrills customers and actually a few have followed him into the store simply because they wanted to see where the cat was going!

The only thing he demands are name brand tube treats in return 😂

So still look out for my byline, and in the meantime come visit us at 1106 Somerset St W, at Curious Times Collective.

These *are* curious times.

There’s such an appetite out there for unique, well-designed and quality goods that are sourced sustainably, and the vintage and second-hand market fits that brief so well.

Some personal news as they say:

In the last few months I decided to leave political journalism and opened up my own vintage shop in Ottawa’s Hintonburg neighbourhood.

As a Leafs fan: Go Montreal.

Capitals fans chanting ‘USA’ and wearing redsk*ns merch… with a Putin stan leading the team?

I hope the Montreal kids hit them where it hurts.

Further evidence that Goose is a dog in a cat suit.

Yes I heard it at Food Basics which is a Sobey’s brand! I haven’t heard it in any Loblaws-owned stores.

FB also put these little maple leaf signs beside all the produce, meat, and cheese that was produced in Canada. What was neat was the shelves with the leaf had lower stock than those without

Just realized I’ve unintentionally got my red, orange, and blue (and a green couch.. what are the odds) and ready to watch the Ontario polls close. #onelxn

It didn’t last long. He got zoomies and then tried to zoom on top of the tunnel. I should’ve seen that coming 😅

Suspect ate a almost a quarter of a meat pie off the counter before getting caught.

Suspect is now in a self-satisfied food coma.

Suspect likely to vomit later tonight; foot patrol to nighttime pee should watch for puddles.

Arrived in Bratislava today and stumbled upon the departure of representatives of Uganda, Argentina, Belarus, Iran, and Malawi from the presidential palace. Curious what this meeting would have been about, a quick online search isn’t telling me much

I also got two cat trees this week for my boys and it’s actually helping them bond so well 🥹

Today in savouring little moments amidst chaos:

I threw my largest ever pot last night at just over 5” tall and just under 5” wide. Starting to work with bigger pieces of clay now. This was ~2.5lbs.

Meant to attach this photo instead of the “fear of reprisals” one twice.

But the saddest part is this article seeking reaction from “Arabs and Muslims” about whether they are afraid of reprisal.

Three men in Toronto say they are not afraid because “Canadians know better than to spread blame to the entire Muslim community.”

With hindsight, that’s hard to read.
August 13, 2023 at 9:52 PM
It’s so sad to read this and also so dark to see the ways the reaction to this event further solidified Islamophobia in our society.

Fear mongering about future attacks, racist depictions, calls to arms.

I have issues of the Globe from Jan. 1, 2000 and Sept. 13, 2001 from the thrift store cashier who handed them to me to wrap my glassware.
