Side tangent

I’m amused by whenever the US Supreme Court refers to the 1328 Statute of Northampton, when I’ve no idea when an English court last did so

We planned to home birth, until we acknowledged that our lamentable electricity supply couldn’t guarantee hot water or heating and we changed tact. But always planned to have a midwife with us, which the local team were fine with - even with us being in rural Devon on Dartmoor’s fringes.

Today, the #HouseofLords published its awaited report examining the state and quality of the #RuleOfLaw in the UK.

The report highlights with concern the weakening of this foundational value, and calls on Government and politicians to take stronger action to defend it.

There are many important recommendations in the HoL report, not least of which is not to be complacent about the strength of the rule of law in the UK.

Have a listen to the show, and do read.

Good Law Project v the Prime Minister [2022] EWCA Civ 1580:
- Public Records Act = narrow duty
- internal policies not generally enforceable in court
- courts won't dictate executive record keeping

But this case revolved around 8 specific policies...
