During the Sui Dynasty's peak (581-619 AD), the practice of raising cats for cursing became so widespread that the imperial court had to create special exile zones for practitioners. Following a shocking case where royal family member Dugu Tuo cursed the empress herself, these supernatural criminals were banished to border regions, creating unique cultural exchanges that influenced local folklore for centuries to come.

Early 20th century Halloween postcards loved a verse. This one references the history behind the tradition of fancy dress at this time. This comes from guising, where people would try and avoid the ghosts and spirits of All Hallows through disguise. That fed into what we now do on October 31.
