The authorised 1950s copies were on tour to Belgravia this summer, as a simple reminder of the beauty of the originals:

Thanks, and yes I’m looking at switching from Apple Classical to Presto. Apple does have some booklet notes for newer releases, but its cataloguing algorithms are very poorly coded, and it misses much contemporary classical music.

Some views of the exhibition, with the Arundel Choirbook, and a 12th Century copy of Boethius’ De instituione musica.

But Apple Classical messes up once more - who knew that Pergolesi, JSBach and Charpentier were alive and writing music in the early 16th century???

Committed playing and some finely-nuanced bariolage. New Simplicity has pitched a fairly useful camp, but the AP tent of “how many ways can we meander back to the tonic minor without having been anywhere first” is not one I’ll be revisiting. Longed for a half-decent Neapolitan for some stimulation.

Rephrasing that to “a group of three people”. It’s not a criticism of them personally, rather a complaint about educational systems that leave people in general unable to talk about music in any constructive or informed manner.

Also I now see while I was “off” there’s a release from Rattle and BRSO which I haven’t yet tried. Plus there’s a video of them playing the work in 2023 www.brso.de/en/audio-vid...

Yes that’s the one. I originally knew the work from the Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester (now called WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln) on DG. But found this Norwegian one startling and revelatory.
