Parents do not do this to their children, even their adult children, on accident or incidentally to their other views. This is a reification of something they feel in their relationship and they are acting it out on their son. I don't think it's good that this is content. It should not be.

"We need to have conversations like these because this is where we are" well we need to have conversations ABOUT a lot of endemic problems in our society but I wouldn't monetize the fuck out of the verbally abusive act itself. At a certain point you have to draw a line.

Have a little self-respect and consider the ethics of your content model. This is over the line. Parents telling their kids they should be murdered by the government and getting platformed by them is like watching a famous woman repeatedly bring her husband on her TikTok so he can smack her.

*YOU* are the one not living in reality if you are acting based on a faith-based belief that either these elderly people don't believe these awful things or that this is healthy. At a certain point I wouldn't go to your family gathering if they were invited and I won't watch those videos either.

I would agree with this with the caveat that it might make us more insular as anything more than a temporary measure -- while we know these things, a world full of people who don't marches on -- and that debate is a humiliation ritual to be reserved for desired recipients of humiliation.

...and of course, when they're bolder, they're less easily ashamed and truth matters to them less and less. They performatively engage in denunciation of even obvious facts or the ability to know them, and openly embrace fallacious thinking. It's hard to "debate" someone like that.

The way that right-wingers and reactionaries (in this sense even the left-wing ones) clout chase has also adapted to our media environment. It seems like fascists have embraced their political ascendance as no longer a bug but the nascent feature of the right-wing. It's made them bolder.

I was originally anti-debate until I took the tact that it's better to have people out there doing it at some competent level than not at all, but while that's been happening the political right has changed. They're more willing to brazenly lie than ever before, which is saying something.

It's a tough double-bind; one the one hand, "the left won't debate" was catnip to people who fetishize the appearance of rationality (a lot of young men) and probably didn't help, but on the other hand, you really can't directly engage with someone that obviously bad faith.
