New blog post (never a paywall): "The Default Body: AI, biased health data, and the illusion of objectivity." Medicine's idea of a “universal body” was never universal. It was male, and now AI is learning from that legacy. Bias doesn’t disappear in data; it scales. jgcarpenter.com/blog.html?bl...

Sharing something personal. All through UG, I struggled with reading and writing. Never came easily. Suffered deep self-doubt. Wasn’t until PhD that I realized only thinking came naturally to me. Pls don’t dismiss those in academia who struggle with reading and writing. They might yet be thinking.

I've had this headline rattling around in my brain since January and I finally wrote it. Been hearing too many people in the startup world buying into the neoractionary nonsense that maybe a little light fascism is good for silicon valley. It's not. It's very, very bad.

On Windrush Day, we pay tribute to the people who came from every corner of the Commonwealth to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War.

We must never forget their huge contribution or the racism they suffered at the hands of successive governments #WindrushDay

I see women shrinking themselves all the time. It’s not modesty, my friends. If we’re gonna do it, let’s call it what it is: fear of disturbing familial, institutional or societal expectations. But faking smallness makes one more invisible to self than to others. This is a risk worth fearing more.

The common wisdom is we are living in an age of polarity. But isn’t the truth that most of us are somewhere in the neglected middle?

We WILL get through this onslaught of negativity about autism and autistic people. But crucially and right now, let's talk about what autistic people themselves want and need to feel safe and secure. Please share. At TPGA:

Remember Trump is using emergency legislation for the tariffs.

So the measures that were urgent and necessary to meet that emergency have now suddenly become non-urgent and unnecessary.

If US congress and courts properly held president to account for misuse of emergency powers, this would matter.

Like an old political fable, it was not many lies of the political ruler that did the damage, but the one thing the ruler had always told the truth about.

Trump has long said he would put up tariffs, but many of his foolish supporters happily assumed it was another lie.

But it was truth.
