This might be one of the scariest macro-economic indicators I have seen since 2006-7. Combine this with recent reportage on offshore basis trading and US bond market volatility and, despite the straining so hard I am about to bust a kidney WSJ smile, it’s...not good.

Thank you to all the millions of decent USians who have risked life, liberty and limb to stand up for the victims of colonial genocide and the fascist hunt of immigrants. If Thanksgiving in the 21st century US should be anything it should be about that.

Went around the table giving thanks. My toddler son was thankful for Halloween (he still thinks it’s a birthday party for monsters). His cousin who is a year younger was grateful for chocolate. Their parents and visiting grandmother were thankful we got visas renewed to be together. Solid choices.

Dengue is brutal. It kills so many around the world, including in India and Bangladesh, countries where my own sister contracted the disease twice. This is incredibly good news and something I will celebrate this Thanksgiving.
Brazil approves the first vaccine against dengue. The disease killed 6000 Brazilians in 2024.

This is a really remarkable achievement. I got dengue in 2015, and even with the mild case I had, it was a really miserable experience.

Among white people, the correlation between racial resentment and their voting decision is much, much stronger than between educational attainment and political alignment.

In fact, if you control for racial resentment, education polarization basically disappears.

I once taught a whole lesson on the narratives of deservedness in the very strange concept of “stealing” books from something conspicuously branded as a “free” little library. The students struggled with it. A lot of internalized beliefs about poverty and worth. But I think it was a good lesson.
If you are concerned about people swiping books from your little free library and reselling those books, I ask you to go to your local used bookstore and sell a book

Okay?

Understand?

Alright, next question
