Huge meat eater here, but eating chicken for dinner in the same room as my birds has given me pause more than once. With the price of beef being $6+/lb, I decided to just try the cheaper plant-based substitute in tonight's chili. Amazing!! Will definitely do this again.

Went to Kuipers' apple orchard today. We've gone and taken a photo together every year since we met in 2014. A bit early in the year, but we wanted to get it out of the way. I only really go for the doughnuts anyway...

Now Peeps seems to be sick. This morning, he was lethargic, fluffed up, sleeping nonstop, and had diarrhea. Not much eating, no chirping...all signs of illness. Vet ran some labs; just waiting on results. Giving him some preemptive meds in the meantime. Hope he gets better soon...

Cecil is doing better. Still watching closely and giving him meds, but he's got energy and enough spunk to fight us at medicine time. Only took two emergency visits and a standard follow-up. Poor baby. Poor bank account...

What a week! Poor Cecil got sick. By the time budgies exhibit signs of illness, it's often too late. Luckily, we were able to get him to an emergency vet and get his crop infections treated. A pricey overnight stay, but he's worth every penny to us. We're just glad he's doing better every day.

First full balcony strawberry of the season! A little late, but we enjoyed it. Nothing beats a warm, freshly-picked, sun-ripened strawberry.

Our baby Frosty passed away last night. He had an incurable infection called dropsy. Absolutely heartbroken this morning. Buried him gently in the pot of our lemon tree. Sad way to start the week... 💔
