I don’t understand posts like this. What am I supposed to do with “90% of nuns are neurodivergent,” that’s not a claim, and if it were, what is it even a claim about. I’m not having fun, I’m not amused, I’m not sure who we’re making fun of, or how we’re not making fun of at least somebody.

Some kind of Great American channel? And I’m feeling certain that whatever PureFlix did is also bad.

Meanwhile, thisvHans Urs von Balthasar book:

To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus.

Explaining Theo-Drama again, for example. And cosmic hierarchy!

Modesty *and* being a gentleman are important to JHN, but he doesn't put either anywhere near the center of being a good Catholic.

So I went and found JH Newman's discourse that brings up modesty (it's in his discourses to Catholics in Dublin on being a university) and being a gentleman. It gets even more interesting. (h/t to the remarkable NINS archive)

Balthasar, Theo-Logic vol. 1.

He wants to maintain a notion of truth. He doesn’t want that notion to mean domination.

If I ever get to meet the pope, I’m gonna take a cue from Cate Blanchett and dress like Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. I think I’ll gift him a very nice toy green lightsaber. Provided I don’t die from pure overwhelmed excitement or get tackled by a Swiss Guard due to my weapon.

Posting so you can have this photo like I do. I’d make a meme of it were I capable of less reverence for popes. (Don’t share your memes with me. I’ll be mildly to severely offended.) Anyway I think he’s saying “Christus resurrexit,” and everyone behind him is yelling “VERE RESURREXIT.”

Super tall panel, inset panel, splitting lengths/widths. Makes the action very dynamic! And it's always nice to see Hawkman around.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 PM
The artist doing World's Finest right now uses panels really, really well. It's nice to see. Production is such that care like that is hard to come by. Really good job changing the width around, good choice of full-page art. And so on. And the characters are all very physical.

Balthasar is not a thesis statements kind of guy. But this might help. I scanned it for one of my phd students: it's Balthasar's explanation of his method and goals in Theo-Drama vol. 1. drive.google.com/file/d/1_5xc...

I keep forgetting that they're evacuating ALL OF EARTH over at DC Comics. I refuse to understand why. Little editorial notes keep telling me what to read. Je refuse.

Reposting this because I’m still thinking about it. Not sure what Balthasar meant by “the post-human” in the 1980s, but I want to believe he saw Blade Runner.

I like Waid’s take on the young Superman (here: Superboy). Earnest, hard on himself, imperfect, doing his best. (Action Comics no. 1092)

Time to recommend this book again. Lots of callbacks to the original comics and it’s good!
