This is the one and only official bsky for the Cities After Transition network. CAT unites scholars from all over the world with an interest in urban development in all things "post-socialist" Central and Eastern Europe and beyond.

Since according to Putin Kyiv is the "mother of all Russian cities," perhaps he should go to Kyiv. I'm sure they would be happy to receive him.

Not an entirely new narrative, but they seem to be pushing it a lot more these days.
Russian propaganda teaches Russians that Germany, Finland, Poland, the Baltic states, Ukraine, Azerbaijan were all "created" by Russia.

A very dangerous narrative.

Lavrov is asking for international law to disregard itself.
Lavrov: "For lasting peace, new territorial realities must be recognized under international law."

They want international recognition of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories. If that happens, that will mean completely destruction of existing international law and order.

You know who else erases history? Putin. He jails truth-tellers, whitewashes Stalin’s mass murders of millions, and rewrites borders to claim Ukraine was never a real country or people.

For a decade, I have been warning that Trump wants to mirror Putin and all his tactics

This has some great chapters on mega-events in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and China
The Hard Edge of Soft Power was published a month ago and I just learned it's the most downloaded book of the past 6 years in Springer's Mega-Events series.

It's also the series' 3rd most downloaded of all time.

I'm very grateful for free-to-read Open Access!

The official CATference microblogging social media account is alive once more! Accept no imitations. This is the one and only bluesky for the Cities After Transition network. (The Xitter account will be formally deactivated soon.)

It's good to be back! And we hope to see you in Tirana this fall!
