Part of that feeling is the way Bluesky is set up without the sidebar of news; it keeps you more to what you follow and doesn't try to artificially introduce Topics into your activity here. It feels more organic, like a lot of people just hanging out and saying stuff. I missed that on social media

Yeah, totally. I feel grateful I was able to get a more stable job in a game studio, but deeply sad for this creative industry that was thriving just a few years ago. AI is badly disrupting the publishing industry from all sides. Have you been seeing similar things in your work?

As a freelance book cover designer/illustrator clients now bring you their AI generated vision for what the cover should look like. That takes away the creative portion of your job and leaves only the layout design portion. Naturally, the client then only wants to pay 1/3 of the fee for the job.

Anecdotally, this is why I'm no longer a full time freelancer. In the winter and spring this year I was seeing that starting to happen in my own job; clients wanted to pay less and less because their expectations were changing due to AI. The trend and reasons behind it were very transparent.

Yeah, totally. There's also the aspect of folks having no idea how much time or research it takes to make an illustration. Any dollar amount sounds like a lot when you have no idea how much work it was, haha

This is the brutal part! 9 or 10 bucks an hour is less than minimum wage in the US state I live in, it's just not sustainable.
