Another layer to Valentino’s attachment is the way he views Angel as a kind of living artwork. Angel is so special because he functionally serves as Val’s masterpiece. Valentino is an artist and he sees Angel as the physical embodiment of that creativity and the most precious parts of his artistic identity, his aesthetic, and his desires. In this way Angel is maybe even held in higher esteem than a partner to Val. He actively feels like a part of Valentino and is intrinsically tied to his perception of himself. Angel’s appearance, his persona, his brand, and his success all of these serve as proof of Valentino’s artistic genius. Angel represents Valentino’s taste, skill, and influence in a way no other performer or possession does. He isn’t simply owned by Valentino; he is a reflection of Valentino’s inner world made external and desirable. Angel isn’t just someone he molded professionally; in Valentino’s mind, Angel is something that came from him. This is why Valentino’s sense of affection, pride, and control over Angel blend together so seamlessly. Angel is not just a companion or a toy, he is a milestone in Valentino’s self-mythology. He is evidence of Valentino's power, creativity, and importance. Because of this, Vox interfering with Angel feels deeply personal. He is changing Angel, and therefore threatening the very foundation of Valentino's relationship with him and himself. Angel is his prized creation and carefully maintained possession. If Angel is to change, that change must come from Valentino. Vox isn’t just manipulating a performer or a toy; he is tampering with Valentino’s work, altering something Valentino considers a direct extension of his own being. It’s vandalism in the most intimate sense. When Vox hurts, rewrites, or mind-controls Angel, Valentino experiences it as a direct assault on himself; his identity, ego, and legacy. To Valentino, Vox isn’t simply hurting or ‘borrowing’ Angel. He is desecrating a part of Valentino himself.

One theory I have for the next few episodes is that Valentino may be the one to stop Vox from further tormenting Angel Dust. Though Valentino is undeniably abusive and controlling, his possessive attachment to Angel and warped perceptions of affection and love could motivate him to intervene. If he ‘saved’ Angel, it would serve both his emotional needs and his desire for control. 2. Valentino’s Relationship with Angel Dust and Perceptions Valentino’s relationship with Angel, while extremely unhealthy and built on possession, is also built on some level of genuine attachment and affection. He enjoys Angel’s company, he wants, and keeps him around more than others. Valentino likely believes he loves Angel and to some extent he might. Not in any healthy way or even a way that lets him see Angel fully as a person, but he does care about him. At worst, Valentino sees Angel as his favorite toy, clinging to him the way someone won’t give up their prized teddy bear even after they’ve outgrown the rest of their toys. At best, Valentino sees Angel the way misogynistic men might see their wives, living property, an unequal partner, and a second class citizen but above all the rest. Angel is special because he is Valentino’s. He may not be a person but a coveted extension of Val. Within this mindset, affection and control become indistinguishable. He can both harm and adore Angel without seeing a contradiction, because in Valentino’s mind, he’s always doing what’s best for them/him. He doesn’t see anything he does to Angel as abuse. When he hurts Angel, he frames it as an expression of passion or frustration or the classic “I do this because I love you” rationalization. His acts of violence or cruelty are justified reactions rather than harm. Because of this, Valentino selectively remembers positive interactions and downplays or ignores the negative ones. He likely views their relationship as turbulent but loving, never realizing the true impact of his actions. When Valentino sees Vox interacting with Angel it isn’t something he can misinterpret or overwrite like he does with his own interactions. There is a very crucial difference in their motivations for how they treat Angel. Vox very clearly dislikes Angel. While Valentino’s own abuse is cloaked in the language of affection, Vox’s cruelty is unambiguous. He is taking pleasure in causing Angel genuine distress. He is using Angel in the way the group treats other sinners, as a quick means to an end to be discarded but with an additional malice. He uses Angel as a disposable tool, not as someone/something he values or even pretends to care for. This is upsetting for Val, not just because he doesn't want to share his toys, but also because Angel is special to him. Vox is disregarding that entirely, he isn’t hurting Angel out of care. Vox is genuinely abusing Angel in a way that Val can’t misinterpret or overwrite like he does with his own interactions.Vox doesn’t do it the way Val does it. Vox can’t do it the way Val does it. It’s the same twisted logic as hitting your sibling: you can do it, but no one else can. 4. The Hypnosis Scenes This inner conflict becomes especially visible during the hypnosis scenes. The first time Vox hypnotizes Angel, Valentino appears unenthusiastic but ultimately turns away. Vox likely convinced him there would be benefits, but it is clear that Val isn’t a fan. By the most recent instance, however, Valentino shows active resistance, and when it actually happens Valentino can’t even look at Angel as he lures him into the trap. His silence is unusual. Angel even tries to provoke a reaction by calling him “Daddy,” but Valentino doesn’t respond. He can’t seem too. He’s visibly unhappy, detached, and conflicted. Given these dynamics and proximity, Valentino is the most likely candidate to “save” Angel from Vox. Not out of moral clarity or compassion, but out of possessiveness and the need to preserve the illusion of affection and keep Angel dependent. Valentino has both the access and the opportunity that others lack. Angel’s friends at the hotel care about him, but they’re removed from his current situation. They don’t know the full extent of what’s happening between Angel, Vox, and Valentino. And with everything else occupying their attention, Angel’s suffering may not be their immediate priority. Valentino, however, is close enough to witness it firsthand. He’s in the room, complicit but present, and that proximity gives him the power to act where others can’t. When the hypnosis ends, Angel will be left vulnerable; emotionally raw, disoriented, and primed for manipulation. His self-esteem is already fragile, and he has a long history of internalizing blame. Once he realizes what Vox made him do, his first instinct (probably accompanied by external forces reinforcing) will likely be to blame himself: for being weak, for falling into the trap, for betraying his friends. That guilt isolates him further, making him less likely to reach out for genuine help and more likely to retreat toward what’s familiar and away from his friends in fear that he causes them more trouble. It’s the perfect storm for Valentino to step in. If he rescues Angel, he positions himself as the protector rather than the perpetrator. Valentino can rewrite the narrative to his advantage. He can position himself not as the enabler who allowed Vox’s abuse, but as the savior who endedit. To Angel, Valentino’s actions could read as genuine care, which would reignite dependence, affection, and restart the cycle of abuse. In Valentino’s mind, however, it reaffirms that he is the only one who truly “loves” Angel and the only one allowed to hurt or save him.
