While I much prefer wild capybara, getting to see one up close at Gatorland last year was neat. (And I, a good wife, totally bought tickets to meet the capybaras for @joeymaier.bsky.social birthday and not* at all because I really wanted to)

Storytime of a day in nature, doing field work and herpetology (despite not having pictures of any herpetofauna found today).
Today, Nov. 14, is World Diabetes Day, which is usually repped by people wearing blue. I was diagnosed as Type 1 Diabetic at age 5.5, and it has been a difficult 23 years...

Finally got to do my birthday present with the koala encounter at ZooTampa! Learned about koalas having two thumbs and that they have a retrovirus similar to AIDS which is causing the majority of the issues with chlamydia.

As a timeline cleanse, been binge-watching ST: Lower Decks now that I finally have Paramount+. Got to the episode with the nightmare Klingon Clowns and tried to decide whether they would find puns honorable or not. On the one hand, people groan at how terrible they are, so seems unhonorable....1/2

Also, the SeaLife aquarium arm of Merlin Entertainment participates in the zebra shark rewilding program in Indonesia. While not at this location, the Orlando location does have zebra sharks. Found out more about this project from Melissa Cristina Marquez's article: www.forbes.com/sites/meliss...

#SharksNearMe went to check out the new SeaLife aquarium located at Legoland Florida Resort, which lucky enough is less than five miles from me. Saw beautiful sharks and rays. It's a cute aquarium and had good educational materials throughout. A great addition to the park!

The first elasmobranch I saw in the wild was a cownose ray. In the tank at Epcot when @joeymaier.bsky.social proposed to me, there was a cownose that was spinning in the water column. (The aquarists said nothing was wrong with it). So, for #SundayFishSketch, I drew that cownose with Paint program.

One of my favorite tattoos so far. The sandbar shark was the first I ever tagged and the great hammerhead was the first wild shark I saw while scuba diving (on my first ocean dive at that!). Still working on my path to be a marine biologist! #MarineBiologistDay #womeninstem
