This is heartbreaking to read. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Unfortunately, those who are forcing life-changing decisions on others are often fit people who are not struggling.

This is a study by the University of Liège in Belgium.
Interestingly, the car was by far the most named object in this group.

The aim of the study was to determine whether there's a link between object personification and the practice of giving personal names to objects.

Here's a paper on the influence of anthropomorphism on giving personal names to objects.

As always, please read the entire thread.
This isn't about "intensive being helpful" or not, but about the terrible way languages are being ranked in that chart. Of course, intensive or full immersion is great under specific circumstances, but generalizations and creating false expectations aren't.

6) Conclusion: more important than these time criteria is finding the method (or teacher) that fits the learner. There are a myriad of variables that can slow down or speed up your language learning that are NOT related to the supposed or perceived difficulty or easiness of a language.

5) Every language journey is unique to the language learner and these comparisons merely serve to make language learners feel defeated, because they can never meet those time frames (for good reasons!)

4) What is intended here by "general professional proficiency"? Fluency in reading and writing? Fluency in listening ? Fluency in speaking only? Fluency and proficiency in themselves are open to many interpretations.
October 4, 2023 at 8:15 AM
3) There's absolutely no rational explanation for how languages have been grouped here, but maybe more importantly, there's absolutely no comparison possible between individual language learners, even having the same L1, because every language learner comes with a diff set of skills & difficulties.
