Agreed. Being Children's Commissioner at the time much of the abuse was taking place and not acting feels disqualifying. E.g. a blog she wrote at the time about a GG case was entirely generic: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/blog/keeping-kids-safe-anne-longfields-article-for-huff-post/

I grew up in the 70s and 80s.

If you weren't there, just a little clarification on that Spectator piece.

Literally, NOBODY admired Hitler. Apart from nazis.

Hope that helps.

This is a strange decision. You would think that by now Labour would see the need to employ someone who could never be accused of partiality in this role.

Every time I check on here, BlueSky, it becomes clearer that it is irrelevant to UK politics.

You would have no idea what is going on if you just spent your time here. But perhaps that is not the point of it for UK users?

1,000m warm up and drills,
9x100m at sub race pace (around 1.39/100m, plus 30s recovery).

Focus was to stay loooong in the stroke, plus bilateral breathing to keep effort down. Think this will be a good drill for me. 😊

Good discussion on immigration, ethnicity, social cohesion etc

Heartening to hear points of agreement and a decent centrist position emerging around slowing down immigration, recognising the concerns of the white working class, and calling out overt racism.
How should we think about white British ethnic decline? Eric Kaufmann, Luke Tryl, Paul Embery

«The more we rely on algorithms, the more we normalize their values: automation, prediction, standardization, and corporate dependency. Eventually these priorities fade from view and come to seem natural—“just the way things are.”»

Watching the #KingKenny documentary last night.

What a wonderful film maker @asifkapadia.bsky.social is. The way the film builds and builds.

And Kenny Dalglish was an extraordinary - and somewhat unlikely - leader through some of Liverpool's most traumatic times.

So Farage will win next GE with huge majority?
We are now at the stage where all those who knew him in the past have warned us that Nigel Farage is unfit to be PM. About the same stage as when those who knew him in the past warned us that Boris Johnson was unfit to be PM.

I'd like to see all the energy put into the 'Farage was a racist at 13' nonsense put towards more enquiry into his financial connections with Russia.
Farage has been dismissing evidence of Russian ties to the Salisbury Novichok attack since 2018 🧐

It's really amazing that Book of Mormon has survived so long.

Obscene, racist, homophobic, blasphemous, puerile - it somehow overcomes it all by being brilliantly satirical, very funny and weirdly moving.

Gives one hope.

Reform accepted £9 million from a former Boris Johnson backer & crypto-multimillionaire.

Today, Nigel Farage postures as a righteous defender of the same democracy he actively undermines.

Democracy should never be for sale. It's time for a cap on political donations.

Out doing some Christmas shopping. Saw a #running shop. Wondered how long it will be before we can buy, not just new trainers and shorts for Xmas, but new feet, new tendons, etc.

#AI will force more and more conversations to be about #data:

- what its source is;
- how it was collected;
- who collected it;
- the nature and size of the sample, etc.

Overall, this should be healthy, but it might also lead to discussions becoming mired in minutiae and unable to proceed.

Raja Miah on blistering form here.

It is amazing how few in the media will even debate Raja on these issues, given his knowledge and bravery.

When you consider e.g. Question Time had Mohammed Ansar on as a 'community leader' all those years ago!

I actually think it's boredom for a lot of folks:
it's boring to say Hitler was an evil f*ck so let's make a podcast to prove he's a great guy;
it's boring to consider that humans pollute the planet, so let's pretend we can carry on same as. Etc, etc.
I feel like one of the most underrated explanations for what's happening right now in global politics is that almost everyone has lost their minds.

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.
