YEAH that is especially flavorful to me because in a sense by doing all that she made jace like her. because of it they are both the person who should be the unchallenged heir but for an accident of birth beyond their control they will fight all their lives and there will always be questions

even if they hold their kingdom together in their lifetime, what happens after? if they’ve had children with someone who the rest of the nobility considers unsuitable, their heirs will now have to fight the aforementioned war, and if they have no children there will in all likelihood also be a war

my best guess is that either whoever was doing the wigs did not know how to install a wig on someone whose natural hair is short OR there was some issue with the fake ears, but that would be really strange given the wealth of other things with actors in elf ears without this problem

a) at least in the hobbit, it’s very clear that the images of jews that tolkien is drawing on are of historical ashkenazim, thus yiddish speaking

for all his reputation as a deep lore writer, a lot of tolkien’s skill with disturbing elements is actually the refusal to explain further. something Terrible happens to characters and we are not given the comfort of knowing what something was, Things stalk in the night and are never explained, etc.
