there is a scene in my mind's eye from the perspective of one of caranthir's lieutenants where he is traveling westward with caranthir among a small company and as they pass north of doriath their lord warns them that if they see a woman standing in the shadows amid the trees off the road they are not to stop or try to aid her and he understands that caranthir is talking about some madness of nan dungortheb trying to lead them off the path and into its web but it still nearly stops him dead when he looks into the treeline and lady haleth is watching him there

thinking brain: the fact that sindarin has no z but quenya and khuzdul do means it would stand to reason if ‘z’ is a sort of shibboleth through which dwarves know the exiles from other elves based on how they pronounce it funny brain: menegroth comedy where the dwarves start giving things names with as many z’s as possible to the point of total absurdity like saying this hammer is named zazuzduzaz just to watch their sindar employers suffer trying to pronounce them

my usual refusal to break things into a thread, etc.
it helps the case here also that the timeline of the cirth being created is murky because war of the jewels says the dwarves learned the runes of daeron when they built menegroth (so they exist pre-YT 1300, though it says daeron later improved them), morgoth’s ring has daeron making the cirth in YT 1300, but lotr says dwarves merely learned a simpler, earlier cirth made by the sindar generally and that the alphabet of daeron is not made until the first age and shows some influence of the noldor (it says ‘in elvish tradition, it was said’ daeron made this alphabet) and that only in eregion did the dwarves learn this more refined cirth that was daeron’s so its unclear

i think ‘celebrimbor’ would be khuzdulized with kibil as the element for silver and not zigil because kibil seems to refer more to the material whereas zigil is the color and t(y)elpë- refers often to the material as well as the color (silma- is a silver/white color term)

i've become a truther that the dwarves actually invented the cirth. first of all, coding the relationship between dwarves and khuzdul as that of ashkenazim to hebrew that hard but then having them never create an alphabet of their own is fake news. second of all, there is the following passage:
The Longbeard Dwarves therefore adopted the Runes, and modified htem for their own uses (especially the expression of Khuzdul); and they adhered to them even far into the Third Age, when they were forgotten by others except the loremasters of Elves and Men. when findekáno returns from thangorodrim turukáno is poisonous and seething and he knows this is because turukáno, who is bleeding to death from the grief of being unable to save elenwë, cannot bear that findekáno somehow saved someone dear against all odds, but what findekáno does not see is that turukáno’s bitterness is also because the mere idea that he might have lost his brother in an effort to save someone to him so utterly unworthy and whom he already blamed for all this makes him blind with rage. this is turukáno’s love along with his resentment.
