Church Camp: Bad Skits, Cry Night, and How White Evangelicalism Betrayed a Generation

No press is bad press.

After an unbelievably negative review from @christianitytoday.com yesterday (that missed the point of the book, mind you), sales & subscribers & followers are up! CT editors are (secretly) emailing me, apologizing.

WILD.

GLORY.

I'm so glad writer Anna Rollins found a home for this hybrid personal essay meets Church Camp book review over at @commongoodmag.bsky.social.

But I don't know, you'll have to tell me: Is church camp too ...campy? Can that even be a thing?

I feel like I JUST scratched the surface when it comes to the impact of purity culture at camps (even if "scratching the surface" still made up half a chapter in the book).

I'm so glad Jeremiah over at Sexvangelicals decided to run with it even more!

Loving the week of podcast episodes? Have no fear, another podcast is here!

I'm so grateful @courtneyellis.bsky.social brought me on her show, The Thing With Feathers. We talked about hope, a lot, but we also talked about my favorite bird.

It's podcast-sharing week! Check out this episode with Ryan Walton of the @daringtodad.bsky.social podcast.

Ryan and I come from very similar worlds, so it doesn't take much to find commonality through Church Camp.

Joshua Johnson of @shiftingculture.bsky.social Podcast is a PHENOMENAL question-asker. I loved, loved, loved our conversation, which really is rooted in shifting culture.

And isn't that also kind of what Church Camp is about too?

@alexisbusetti.bsky.social of That Makes Total Sense Podcast was one of my favorite interviews when my first book came out.

It wasn't all that different with Church Camp! Even though it's a TOTALLY different conversation, it's still a good one.

I started writing for @baptistnews.com earlier this year and have just continued to fall in love with the publication. They're doing good, good things, y'all!

What a joy to then have them reach out for a review of Church Camp.

Enjoy!

Not only does she GET the book, but she was able to guide a conversation between the two of us that really celebrated one of my favorite aspects of camp: MUSIC!!!!
