Just here in hopes of social media that still includes the *social* part
That sounds like difficult. Hoping for some ease for you both (and a rain check for the friend outing)

My theory about the strange crunch this time of year when we should all be in cruising mode is that people don’t want to think about their family dysfunction, so instead they focus all their time and urgency on work.

Sometimes I just gotta lie to myself to get through

It really was basically suicide by proxy

Rolling coal is part of an anti-environmentalist movement. My brother in law owns a used truck dealership that specializes in it. (We are not on speaking terms.)

My Gracie’s hoodie is popular on my zoom calls.
Them: What does your shirt say?
Me: Ice cream weather.
Them: *confused squinting*
Me: it’s always ice cream weather!

This exchange makes everyone happy, it’s a good way to start a call.

Thank you!! I really enjoy the process.

Who is surprised by this, at this point? (I mean, I guess some people. Like the person writing the article. But it seems so obvious to me.)

So I’m neither average nor exceptional if I get into burnout territory. For me, boring old consistency - showing up over & over - leads to exceptional. That means prioritizing rest. I progress further with steady effort vs intense bursts. Rest is needed for consistency. Self awareness, as you say.

Yes, this is where they’ve been all along:

from All My Friends (2007) -
“And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand
You can sleep on the plane or review what you said
When you’re drunk and the kids look impossibly tan
You think over and over, ‘hey, I’m finally dead’”

I have some coworkers who have, like, cautiously said to me that they don’t plan on having kids. (Everyone has seen my kiddo behaving badly on zoom.) I completely get why someone wouldn’t and I hate that the expectation is so gross and widespread.

This has the same roots as rfk jr’s threats to put people taking Adderall into wellness camps (or so says my pattern recognition)

Or it was plot twist. Either way, appreciated it

Oh WOW and also yikes and also also, way to bury the lede. What a bummer.

It looks much more fun than regular cake. Have you experimented with ganache? Melted chocolate + heavy cream poured over the top. Looks v. fancy, is fast and easy.

Yes, but: it was a private boarding school in rural MA. Reunions happen in summer and are a huge moneymaker. They charged $$$ to stay in the dorms (it’s not like there are a ton of hotels nearby) and for the food. The real money for the school, of course, is from alumni donations.

Is the ambassador a giant? That was a lot of grilled cheese.

IME lives can be ruined by spite, hotness optional. You have options!

It’s GORGEOUS. So far I’m resisting getting caught in the maintenance cycle but man, the curls plus the weird texture from grays is just all frizz, all the time. So I’m pivoting to work on being thankful it’s not too thin yet.

Thank you for this! Appreciate the time, effort and speed to publish here.

Yeah I also thought “boob laser”

(Side note: I am currently listening to Everybody Wants to Rule the World Except Me and it slaps, thank you for writing such a delightful series)

Why is the slanted roof being shoveled? Is that a Victorian London thing? AFAIK, It’s only flat roofs that have a problem, but maybe there’s some period detail happening.
I love the signs in this.

Belated response but I set up my iphone with a shortcut to grayscale - I can toggle on/off just by hitting the side button 3x. (Do I remember to use it? No. Does it work when I use it? Yes.)
