Blattodea (cockroaches and termites) and Mantodea (mantises) are sister groups in the superorder Dictyoptera. Both groups lay egg cases called ootheca, and they share several specific anatomical features.

Most of its limbs are thin, except for its legs which has extra bulky femurs.
