Remember all the meltdowns about virtue signaling. That's because social signaling is ALL that matters and if you signal that you care about something they don't they get personally offended. You're adding another checkbox to their list and for who? People they hate.

Their entire worldview believes that conspicuous conformity will CAUSE unity even as everything else falls apart. The airplanes can be falling out of the sky but as long as we're the richest and best dressed country in the world then by god we'll make it through.

Stop calling people entitled or spoiled, acknowledge that there are disconnects between policy, impact, and how people perceive that impact. Your job as a politician is to close those gaps but you need to start by actually listening.

An alternative frame would be to acknowledge that even if the economy is good that we understand that you might not be experiencing the benefits and so we're going to get together and make sure that everyone does. Are you frustrated or upset? Damn right. You should be on board too!

This is the problem with stancilism. He tells people that if they're struggling well no they aren't they're just buying Republican propaganda. That's not going to sway people because it contradicts their own experiences.
