Little girl is so so exhausted but doing good, all things considered. When I’m not drawing her I’m staring at her little face and thinking about how lucky we are she’s okay.

She’s back home now 🥰 half of her body is shaved and she has been sleeping heavily. Seems like she’s relaxing from her big ordeal, we are too. So so glad she is alive! Really appreciate everyone who is helping us out materially and commenting kindly 💕

Just saw her for the first time since yesterday morning. She is out of it and half her body is shaved but I am so relieved she’s alive!! They gave us back the stick. The part that fingers are bracketing is the part that was inside her! She’s little, only 20lbs. Incredible it missed everything vital.

Here’s her CT scan. The stick was so big compared to her 😭 it’s still all I can see in my mind’s eye. So so ready to go visit her this afternoon so I can see her stitched up and alive.

Hi everyone, my sweet little dog had a really gruesome freak accident yesterday. Survived it pretty miraculously, but my partner and I are broke and facing new medical debt in order to make that possible. Any help would mean a great deal 🖤🙏

It miraculously missed puncturing vital organs and arteries. She got through surgery yesterday and if all goes well my partner and I will be able to bring her home this weekend. We are so SO grateful she is alive, we love her so dearly and this was really gruesome and scary for us all. However, the $7000 cost of the surgery has wiped out my partner's savings, and is adding a heap of medical debt back onto my Care Credit card. i’m trying to challenge myself with figures. look at this foreshortening i’m proud 😊

uhh anyone else ever read The Story of the Marquise-Marquis de Banneville, a short 17th century tale filled with beautiful and beloved transgender people??
poem in the book that reads: Mars and Venus were arguing one day Over which would possess your charms. Your ancestors' blood inspired you to arms, And your beautiful eyes seemed to inspire only love. But now all argument is over. Mars is vanquished, love remains the victor. We see only a beautiful princess, And come to offer her our hearts. back cover of book that reads: The beautiful Marquise de Banneville meets a handsome mar- quis, and they fall in love. But the young woman is actually a young man (brought up as a girl and completely in the dark about her—or his—true sex), while the marquis is actually a young woman who likes to cross-dress. In the introduction, Joan DeJean presents the fascinating puzzle of authorship of this lighthearted gender-bending tale written in the late seventeenth century in France. Was it François-Timoléon de Choisy, an abbot who was happiest in drag? Marie-Jeanne L'Héritier, an outspoken defender of women's writing of her day? Or Charles Perrault, L'Héritier's uncle and the famous author of such fairy tales as "Sleeping Beauty"? DeJean argues that the tale was a collaboration of all three and discusses the permeable borderline between masculinity and femi-ninity, transvestism, and tolerance—then and now.

and! if you’ve gotten one, or borrowed one to try for a minute and found it too unwieldy and awkward, don’t make any judgments until you’ve tried one that’s actually your size. this is the chart that helped me out:
Cane sizing chart: the lowest part on the top of the handle (the dip in the “saddle”) should be at wrist height when the arm is at rest at one’s side. Canes that stand tall like at stomach height are too tall and cannot give proper support, as with canes that are too short and require one to lean over to the side to get support from.

an artist friend gave me an quick and amazing sketching lesson recently and really cracked open the practice for me. i get sketching so much better as a tool now. and am doing my homework practice of quick times gesture drawing :)
