People who were actually enslaved believed that chattel slavery would end one day.

I'm sorry but to me that suggests that you [who are not enslaved in 2026] can also imagine an end to the current horrors.

If a conservative anywhere has to hear, encounter, or be subject to judgement based on an opinion they disagree with that’s maoism but if conservatives use state power to prosecute, defund, or censor you that’s fine because they’re just entitled to do that for reasons

For the intentionally obtuse: there are many many ways to enforce laws. Stop framing issues as ‘don’t enforce the law at all, or enforce it in the worst way possible.’ Your false choice is intentional.

This is deliberate. And it’s going to be our downfall if we persist.

“2026 is off to a rough start.

But as I harp on about all the time, the thing we can learn from winter solstice is that as the sun begins to return, the cold sets in. There is a delay between the return of hope and of things getting better. Spring is coming.”
this week's post is about, well, this week.

it hasn't been a boring week.

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

I need everyone to stop calling AI engagements “conversations.” You’re not conversing. Conversing requires the exchange of ideas.

You’re not “having a conversation” with Chat. You’re engaging with a computer program.

Tariffs on furniture and kitchen cabinets that President Trump had slated to begin yesterday were delayed for a year.

The US also sharply lowered planned tariffs on Italian pasta.

this week's post is something i've been working on for a long time, and is a little guide to living the good life. Or it's early aughts punk nostalgia. Or it's my response to tradwife culture.
