Science fiction, movies, robots, Cambridge-UK based, don't eat nearly as much chocolate as when I first wrote my profile but I do much more sewing.

This Thursday the 27th November we kick off our online edition of the festival, Sohome Horror Fest with a masterful night of extraterrorestrial goodness.

Opening the festival is the UK Premiere of Michael Middelkoop’s hilarious alien banger STRAIGHT OUTTA SPACE, preceded by the intense ESCAPE.

Catching up on the bowtie block from last week's quilt class. Pleased with getting my points lined up for the first two. The 3D version (where you can get a finger under each of the four edges of the "knot") is much more fiddly and will take another 2-3 attempts before I properly get the knack.

Made it to Quilt Class but just to watch the fiddly block trimming, used too much energy this morning preparing for it. I should rest this afternoon/evening while going OMG OMG I have so much to do before Tuesday.
I was pleased to have finished that Saturday task so quickly but go slow subsequently.

Looking through my periodic health checks to see which ones come up next year. Bowel? Breast? Cervix? Eye? They're in 2-year, 3-year, 5-year repeat cycles.

A day of odd tastes and smells. Didn't swallow my pill in one go, tastes revolting as soon as it starts to dissolve. Cleaned the window and my hands smell of fluid. Lodger laundry liquid smell is filling the house like I can taste it. Trying to override it with artificial flavour in my coffee.

The thing I thought would take a day and a half (to be done by Tuesday) is stalled by not enough information (or not enough confidence to plough ahead regardless). I'll try to make actual progress on a less urgent thing, do more research, and bump the bigger thing to Tuesday week. Always juggling.

Glad I got the fresh pack of teabags from the garage before the rain started tipping down so hard.

I did my comedy routines before 9am! The bird feeder fell over. I picked it up and restaked it, hung the feeders up, it fell over. Repeat but through the table parasol hole. But the pole sections aren't fixed so every time I lift it, it falls apart with clangs and I'm holding the top like a lemon.

Yay! A thing I thought would take 2-3 days, I've finished already and it's not yet 3pm.
Yay! Mounted up two cross-stitch cards.
Nooooooooo! Thought of something to do with the other six blanks that I really don't have time for...

Friday's excitement is people coming to do maintenance on the living room and study windows, so it will be a very cold afternoon. Also I'd normally move living room stuff to the study to make space, and vice versa, so I'll have to be a bit clever.

I have just wrapped two Christmas presents because otherwise they'll be on my mental To Do list for five weeks.

Dear Bridget, aim to get your Christmas gift crafting done by November, because later it gets dark and chilly and you don't want to keep your hands out.

I was up before Toby this morning. Two cats at the kitchen door requesting second breakfast, but I'm not head chef so only gave them a few biscuits.
"But Cinnamon doesn't eat biscuits!"
He does if you don't know this and just leave biscuits.

William Carlos Williams has been suspended for 72 hours for his post in which he claimed to have "eaten the plums that were in the icebox."
The account owner said "Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold."

Good eye test, healthy eyes, distance prescription fairly stable so I can keep my current pair for another two years. Near vision a bit worse but I can stick with cheap readers. I might try varifocals for some purposes but no rush. And only 40 minutes not 90 as I wasn't choosing frames.

The Long Covid has let me do several hours of crafting at home recently, but class was a different matter. Just 15 minutes walk, but setting up the unfamiliar class machine, stopping and starting, queuing for irons, people asking me things while I'm concentrating, I fried up after 90 minutes.

Tuesday's Log Cabin sample block. I made it to class this week, got a couple of tips to make my cutting easier.

Monday's darning. My weave is improving but not yet as tight as I'd like. Experimenting with different thickness wools - the blue elbow darn used fine darning wool.
A rough silly day of worry, but now @bugshaw.bsky.social is sending me photos of how she’s darning a favourite jumper of mine. That second photo, the small patch in the hem, how the thread gently helps the wool take shape again after years and years of use - just the most marvellous thing.

Had a private Covid vaccine at a local community pharmacy. They asked about diabetes (from the questionnaire), I knew I wouldn't get a free jab but I did get a free box of five LFTs.

I am inclined to post more crafts as I make them, but we are approaching the Month of Secrets and I might have to make a Boxing Day Reveal.

The darning course did have a post-event questionnaire (for our modern questionnaire-based lifestyles) but it gave me an opportunity to say how touched I was that they got in some gluten free dairy free macaroons for me while everyone else was having cakes.

Darning workshop - great basis for understanding tension, reinforcement, stability, decoration, techniques. We started by cutting a small hole in a bit of sleeve and darning in contrasting colours. I went on to start on actual holes, and got tips on handling cuffs and larger holes.

A last CFF Craft Finish Festival wrap-up of what I finished in the 11 days.
Since then I've done another patchwork sample block, 2/3 of a cross stitch robin, missed quilt class because I overdid things the day before :-(
Today I'm out for a half day darning workshop with Toby's jumper.

"But if that were true then your life would be impossible" is an entire genre of dismissals of disabled people's experiences.

It's not that they don't understand when we say how hard it is. It's that they can't believe we're still functioning at all of it's that hard.
"how do they ever get anything done, then?"

And yea, all praise to ADHD folks for ever getting anything done because it seems it would be impossible without that motivation and reward. The fact that you are ever able to do anything is superhuman!
