Love this brilliant graphic by the fabulous @penmendonca.bsky.social, illustrating the 'five categories of hmmm words' @tricianicoll.bsky.social and I will be discussing in our #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage programme.

What words would you add?
A graphic by Dr Pen Mendonca illustrating five categories of hmmm words - blaming words like complex, hard to reach and non-complaint, silly words like accessing the community, sorting office words like signposting and screening, deceptive words like independence and prevention, and them and us words like client, service user and case. Below these words are some brilliant images of people living their gloriously ordinary lives, and everyday words like sister, boss, belonging and hope.

Me & @tricianicoll.bsky.social are really looking forward to our first #GloriouslyOrdinaryLanguage session for councils on Friday, with Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, North Yorks & Hull Councils.

In session 1 we’ll focus on ‘purpose’ & how we communicate about what adult social care is all about.

Last day in Donny today… end of an era. I’ve worked in info, comms and practice development in adult social care in local councils since 2006… looking forward to the next chapter and continuing to challenge and change adult social care language and practice. #RewritingSocialCare
