Seriously, 25 albums and they can’t find someone else instead of this prick?

Exactly! And the cooler ones already are

I wish I had time to show them videos of b-boys dancing at Soho galleries, or Rock Steady dancing at Lincoln Center. It's their homegrown culture, but they don't know it. Some don't get why I have Willie Colon on there either! But yes to all of the above
December 1, 2025 at 8:21 PM
It's the goal, but trust me its harder than you think! But I know that as they go on with their lives they'll start to notice things like Count Basie, or Hendrix, or Woody Guthrie get mentioned here and there. And they'll go "oh yeah....."

I wish I could have time for all of the above. The Ramones are my only CBGBs representative. Once in a Lifetime would blow their minds.

If only!
December 1, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Yes but that would open up the whole "WTF is this?" reactions to Devo, which would be fair. A-Ha allows me to make my point quickly. Good looking guys, plus a song they already know, and a video that's undeniably cool. And then I show the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit 🤠

Ugh! That should be the original version. I need to go through all these better

Not American! But I do cover the British Invasion, and the one & only track I play that’s not American - Take On Me, as an example of both synth pop & MTV. we watch the video of course cuz duh
December 1, 2025 at 7:37 PM
historically it’s a game changer. But since you & I share the same opinion of the music, you will notice it’s absence from the playlist. Plus I don’t defend plays that defend people who married into slave trading families

That indeed, would be a standard to them. They know Disney more than anything else. Then comes Anime & Video Games, then sports. That’s the list.
December 1, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Golden from Demon Hunters, or We Don't Talk About Bruno could also be seen as "standards" to them, they all know these songs, as do their parents & younger cousins too
December 1, 2025 at 7:22 PM
Sometimes what seems obv to us confuses them. They prob know the MJ, but prob not the Cyndi. So the idea of these as "new standards" get muddled. The examples I give of contemporary standards - Defying Gravity & My Shot, or pop hits that Grandma might know like Shake it Off

Tutu, for me, is a better track than those. But I love those too. I am an “all phases” of Miles kinda guy. In my old jazz class I had Dark Magus too 🤓. If I included everything it would be 3000 songs long

Apple has actually gotten better. Pluribus, Chief of War, the Studio, Severence, Slow Horses, the Stiller Meara doc. I was planning on cancelling but they’ve finally given me stuff to watch
November 30, 2025 at 7:16 PM
HA! No surprise though. That's why I like his drumming!
November 30, 2025 at 7:14 PM
Again, if only! So much left out. So many details.
November 30, 2025 at 7:14 PM
I needed a disco song, so I put my favorite one
November 30, 2025 at 7:04 PM
It was only in theaters for a min. Plus Apple’s dumb way of non-marketing. But I really loved it, the entire film is about music and class. Really well done. Best Spike film in a long time plus seeing EP on the big screen, just a week after he passed, was really special for me
November 30, 2025 at 7:02 PM
It’s on Apple! Spike Lee & Denzel remake Kurosawa. Plus a live appearance by Eddie Palmieri. A masterpiece, IMO

I fully concur. I have often cited both Workin' Day & Night and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' as two of the most African recordings ever made in America, musically speaking. And I do think these were conscious artistic decisions made by both MJ & QJ. The Orishas were present indeed!

I get the fries animal style, but yeah it still only goes so far as to mask an inferior product. Add in their Biblical messages on the packaging... and let's just take it as yet another reminder to eat healthy instead!
