Just this guy, you know?
A couple of times I've seen games do sliders where you can select when you want to have hints pop up and YES more of that! Let people tune their preferences!

Not a bunch, 2 or 3, but yeah it's rather frustrating.

That'll teach me to comment before reading. That's been used a few other places (Flash Gordon had one relatively recently) and it rules pretty much every time.

Every series needs an "Almost Got Him" episode with bad guys talking about their encounters with the main character and trying to sell how awesome they were despite losing.

My brain is doing weird things with the scale of it, so I had trouble too. I parsed them as the size of churros.

The apartment complex across from me put in unshielded floodlights for their parking area. It's interior to the complex so in theory they should only be annoying their own residents (who I hope get compensated in some way) but I'm on a hill and JUST high enough to have one right in my eyes in bed.

I grew up next to a laboratory with a bunch of astrophysicists and astronomy hobbyists in NM. Every few months they'd turn out all the floodlights at the local playing fields, folks would point their telescopes at something interesting, and other members of the community could come look.

Re: our crimes

Just to reiterate the plan from our last secret meeting...

I don't think anybody's ever having a good week when they learn the phrase "dependency Hell".

I keep meaning to poke at Linux, it's been over 20 years, but I got burned pretty bad 20 years ago so it's difficult not to have flashbacks. Mostly a lot of of "well it runs fine on MY computer" from the guy who wrote the custom program I'd been told to use for work.
November 13, 2025 at 2:22 AM
Probably related to my just re-watching an episode of The Panalysts that got into some weird stuff (don't they all), but my knee-jerk thought was Cryptkeeper.

I can't remember if there was actual kerfluffle when Mr Ratigan got gay married on Arthur or just a couple of people futilely trying to make it one. Certainly not on the level of Tinky Winky.

I got to see one splayed out on a rock like that when hiking. Didn't even twitch as we passed, we thought it might be dead until it was gone on our way back.

I don't know if they're all that chill or Wheeler Peak is a common enough hiking trail that they knew humans.

Back when I did it it was an org I signed up for, so they had my info.
November 7, 2025 at 4:00 AM
I used to do it as well. Got a lot of "oh we're full for your demographic". The downside of being a 30 year-old white guy.

transliteration issues are a Hell of a drug.

If that late reporting was actually turning into late fees I'd riot.
November 5, 2025 at 10:13 PM
I can no longer just "pay my rent", I need to log into a third party "community" rewards hub that will let me spend the points I earn for perks on the opposite side of the country. And they're late telling my landlord's systems that I actually paid it so I get a warning every month (no extra fees).
November 5, 2025 at 10:12 PM
pretty much, yeah. It requires confidence that your small lead will stay together.
November 5, 2025 at 7:18 PM
I saw it pointed out earlier today that gerrymandering is about holding onto power as more and more people dislike what you're doing, and when that eventually breaks it's like a dam bursting.

I bang this drum every time I vote in Oregon. Full mail-in. They email me when my ballot is sent out, they email me when it's received, they do all sorts of stuff to make it easy to vote AND get ballots to people who don't have permanent addresses.
November 5, 2025 at 2:32 AM
We had one on the ballot here that said "this will raise property taxes more than 3%" in addition to the usual "$X per 1000 of assessed value" which I guess is a threshold they declare.

Aside from generational design memes ("the brown era" etc) every bit of design tech also has that improvement point where you can think "we're ready, let's go for it" and it falls short. Going from sprites to early polygons was *rough* for a lot of attempts.

I grew up on the side of an old volcano. Any digging deeper than three inches included a crowbar to try and break up the tuff (basically ash sandstone, if you don't mind annoying geologists).
