Venus' thing is that the gravity and radiation protection is chef's kiss for human's around 50 miles up. You just gotta live in a floating bubble. The underlying science is very understandable, so I am surprised you do see it the idea in mainstream scifi, more. Seems like a gimmie for a writer.

I am a pedant nerd, so I am going to point out that you should google "Venus colonization" and discover that the math is shockingly understandable for why Venusian aerostats are possible. We could all be steampunk blimp assholes at about 50 miles above Venus' surface, easy.
