As a kid in the 70s we stopped at Nazaré and had the most amazing meal at a fish place on that beach. Like 7 courses of fish (I was 10, I might be exaggerating). As an adult I was confused when people spoke about monster waves at Nazaré because I only knew it as a serene, protected fishing port.

North 6th is not all about zoning. The same zoning exists for blocks to the north and south, but this stretch became more valuable as retail than residential. It is williamsburg’s Gansevoort - and ironically, was historically Williamsburg‘s meat packing district.

I would have to go back into the local news archives, but I believe it started with a volunteer club that put together a proposal for a bubble and convinced the city to put it out to bid.
