It's getting to the point where I'm no fun any more. I am sorry.

Dad / professional geek / theater kid / New York sports fan.

Is that... pre-chewed?

I believe I just read that a similar system is being rolled out somewhere in the US.

San Francisco or in that general vicinity, maybe?

We've been coached to resent the hell out of paying taxes since Reagan was president.

Reality is, we get a TON for what we pay... but our priorities are royally fucked.

We can always find money to fund some Elon Musk fever dream at the DOD but god forbid we give kids lunch at school.

I mean... would you be willing to pay a larger percentage of your salary if it meant you didn't have to pay separately for medical insurance?

And you got access to great schools?

And a reasonable transportation system?

I think an awful lot of people would sign up for that.

The government can "afford" to pay for whatever it makes a priority.

Maybe we could shift a few bucks away from the "launching missiles at Venezuelan fishing boats" budget and throw 'em at something silly like cancer treatment.

God you're insufferable.

I feel like "electing incompetent shitheads that appoint incompetent shitheads to key positions is a bad idea" is pretty well-established at this point.

I should add that I am actually one of @schumer.senate.gov's constituents and look forward to voting for just about anyone who will primary his sorry, old, ineffective ass.

Sometimes (well, most times) I also feel like @schumer.senate.gov believes he can't actually achieve any policy goals without veto-proof majorities in both houses AND control of the presidency.

Which might actually be true for Schumer but clearly is not for a more effective leader.

Literally everyone except Chuck Schumer.

Hi, Senator?

Quick question.

Can you name one other circumstance where consumer knowledge and choice is keeping prices down in any meaningful way?

Any other industry where that's true?

Fuel? Groceries? Entertainment?

Real Estate?

Fact that they could induct somebody from this list so soon after passing on Bonds and Clemens and the others again casts a pretty unflattering light on the whole process IMO.

Ordinarily I'm not one to post spoilers but the book came out in 1955 and the movie in 2003 so...
