This morning @ #COP30: Indigenous land defenders blockaded access to the venue to demand real action to protect their territories ❤️‍🔥✊🏻

The best part is Total CEO Pouyanné was spotted among those locked out (and begging for anyone w/ photo evidence to come forward 👀)

While some governments are doubling down on a fossil fuel, war, and inequality economy (👀 @mark-carney.bsky.social 👀), there is serious momentum from others to take this public money back.

Cannot understate how important it is that #canlab is united and ready to fight the federal government's repeated override of constitutional labour rights (!!)

Now it's up to rest of us to support the HELL out of these picket lines 🫡🍕🛬📢 x.com/PresidentCLC...

Asked about downgrading Ecuador's credit rating following ending oil in Yasuni, a rep from Fitch says:

"We're just a consensus funnel. It's not us, it's the traders, it's AI."

The clearest case yet to regulate credit rating agencies & build public alternatives #FfD4People @afrodad.bsky.social

At FfD4 rich countries (🇨🇦🇪🇺🇯🇵🇬🇧!) have blocked the urgently needed UN debt workout mechanism that social movements & Global South governments are pushing for.

But this fight is just starting! Join @oilchange.bsky.social and many partners to discuss the path forward at #FfD4People today in Seville🌄

I get that it's hard to imagine governments doing good, big things (as per the @financialtimes.com here), but it's the far far likelier way to win *any* energy transition, let alone a JUST one.

We can and must build stronger political movements to push them to do it! www.ft.com/content/8e5f...

Rich countries also refuse to #PayUp their fair share of climate finance. Instead they push "blended finance" where below-market public loans, equity etc are supposed to attract 4-7 times more private investment.

We found it's more like 1 to 1. oilchange.org/publications...

Because our global financial rules are very outdated & unfair, most countries don't have the 💰 or sovereignty to pursue a publicly-led approach to just energy transition. And the terms available for private finance are far worse than in 🇺🇸🇪🇺🇨🇦🇬🇧🇦🇺!

This is why the global $ breakdown looks like this:

Using more tools in tandem (public ownership, community-led planning, private finance and industrial regulations) would be even better. This is what it will take to get to ALL key areas going 🚄👩🏾‍🏭🔋🏡

We can see pieces of this in e.g. China, Brazil, Chile: www.stampoutpoverty.org/wf_library_p...

Where we DO see more of the $ needed for just energy transition, governments are driving. Many needed green sectors finally got subsidies at scale with COVID-19 recovery *in rich countries*.

For EVs and RE this money has attracted further private finance (particularly from households!)

At NY climate week in 2022, a sr person working in philanthropy said to me "we need to figure out how to get the climate movement to push JPMorganChase to finance more windmills."

It's been haunting me ever since, so we wrote a report & it's in @financialtimes.com c/o @alanbeattie.bsky.social🧵

Carney's cabinet is to the right & more Zionist than Trudeau's. So as @emma-jackson.bsky.social said on @breachmedia.ca, as movements we need to remember all of the lessons of Trudeau and not waste a second pretending Carney will do anything good unless we build real movement power to force him ✌🏼

The Conservatives won more votes AND a higher vote share yesterday than they have in at least 20 years, and more than Harper ever did to form government! The right is still incredibly strong and #elbowsup neoliberalism is going to keep them at bay for maybe 2 more months max.
