She heard the front door fly open with a crash. “Fuck fuck fuck!” Cody bellowed. She frowned and hurried out to see what he was fucking up this time. Her jaw dropped at the sight that waited for her—Cody, wet with rain and as disheveled as she’d ever seen him, her backpack slung over his shoulder, and a yowling, screaming, burlap sack in his hand. “What’re you doing to my cat?” she yelled. “Leave him alone! Don’t eat him!” Cody stared at her with wide, crazy eyes. “I’m not going to eat him,” he growled through clenched teeth. “You said you wanted him so I got him. What the fuck else do you want from me, witch?”

I can’t sleep without them.” “You been sleeping without them all day—” “But it’s different at night!” He sighed. “Fine. I will go back and get them now. You better hope I’m back before dark. Better hope I get back safe.” She shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll be fine here either way.”

He was trying to figure out if what happened last night was real or a dream. The fact that he’d woken up with her dark hair splayed across his chest, her thin fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt, was pretty compelling evidence that it was real. Now I gotchu right where I want you. He cringed. It was unbearable that he’d spoken to her that way.

At the risk of being too weird (even for me) I just really want to share that this is possibly my favorite thing anyone has ever put in a review for 1 of my books (v high bar, since the ppl who review my books are so often beyond lovely and/or hilarious). This is an ARC review for Trespasser btw

He grunted his acknowledgment and waited for her to explain what the hell she was talking about. “I’m sorry for trying to steal your things.” He shrugged. Was that all? He’d practically forgotten about that. “And I’m sorry for calling you a rapist. You didn’t deserve that. You’ve been nothing but kind. And I’m the one who broke into your house.” He shook his head violently. He wasn’t okay with accepting an apology for that. He’d pointed a gun at her, a desperate and half dead woman. He’d made her fear for her life. He owed her an apology, not the other way around, but he was so stupid and useless he couldn’t even manage to spit out two words.
