My old phone gave up the ghost but have to say I'm fairly impressed with the camera on the new one! Beautiful night out there.

Early morning on the Shannon

I found the drawings. I'm pretty sure this is the type of junction that the cyclist that was interviewed is not happy with. This design is not appealing to sport cyclists but it is fundamentally safer. It really is disingenuous of the cyclist to characterise this as giving priority to cars.

This was safer? I doubt that very much.

"what was once a safe road"

What does that mean?

Was it safe for children walking and cycling, for example?

Here's a few more.

Good progress being made outside Thomond Park on the TUS to city centre active travel scheme.

Limerick folks, can you identify the building marked with the number 27? The map dates to 1786.

Was delighted to meet the one and only @thinkorswim.bsky.social at O'Mahony's Bookshop in Limerick last night. John was there to talk about his new book "The Lie of the Land". I've only just started into it but going by the great discussion last night I think it will be very worth reading.

Here's a video I took yesterday of the site. Patrickswell could be a very, very different place in just a few years time.

All of this means that the LAP might not be worth the paper it's written on. The Office of the Planning Regulator might have something to say about this. Then again, the LAP really didn't properly consider the development potential for the village given a new railway is being built right to it.

The Mayor / Council is paying €57,000 per acre for agricultural land. This is about four times the normal cost of agricultural land. While it is clearly intended to develop the site, that would turn the recently adopted Local Area Plan on its head, and elected councillors will have to agree to it.

What street in Limerick is this?
September 3, 2025 at 9:46 AM
Funnily enough, I was only having a look at it tonight too. I have the same concerns but there is some indication that the one-way streets will allow cyclists go two ways on them. It's not particularly clear though.

Politicians in Clare and Limerick need to step up and speak up and deliver this transformative infrastructure for the Midwest Region.

Great to see top quality cycle racing on the medieval streets of Limerick at the weekend. Well done to Greenmount Cycling Academy, @cyclingireland.bsky.social and @limerickcouncil.bsky.social for bringing this spectacular event to the city centre.

Brand new cycle lanes, bus stops and landscaping in Raheen, Limerick (between Raheen roundabout and Quinn's Cross roundabout). This section is around St. Nessan's school.

The path between Limerick City and @unioflimerick.bsky.social along the bank of the Shannon River is just stunning at this time of year.

Good to see the new road markings on Sarsfield Bridge reminding motorists to travel at 30kph or below. Most motorists do so anyway but some don't. Sarsfield Bridge is a very important pedestrian route in and out of the city centre and it's important that it's safe for them.

This square in Brussels was a car park until last year. Now it's a vibrant public space where people go to socialise and relax.

5. Let's pull together and make the Limerick-Clare Region (or "Clare-Limerick", I don't care!) the fastest growing region in Ireland by identifying development lands near the rail lines, and let's build out the LSMATS and AISRR visions. This could all be done relatively quickly. It's a no brainer.
February 24, 2025 at 12:53 PM
3. LSMATS also has a provision for a railway to Shannon Airport. And so does the more recent "All Island Strategic Rail Review". The AISRR calls for Shannon, Dublin and Belfast Airports to be connected to the rail network. The great thing about the Shannon rail spur is that is not difficult to do.

2. LSMATS (the "Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy") was set out a few years ago and it largely envisions upgrading existing railway lines with new stations. These can be locations for large scale housing development, all connected to each other by a Dart-like train system.
