This is better than any description of #gentrification I have ever seen. That term is generally so vague as to be useless, but the concept of filtering up makes the actual problem and solutions clearer.

Economic argument is that cost of cash (storage, transport, security) is equal or higher and would get passed to consumer anyway. Popularity of digital cash has likely reduced economies of scale for physical cash, making it even more expensive and allowing CC companies to raise accordingly.
