I brought in a student panel to my First Year Experience class this semester and they were all pre-med. A student asked what their biggest regret was and they all said "not majoring in art/theatre/music - you can major in anything you want to be pre-med, just take the pre-med classes."

I only half joke that since most of the students were just going to get a job at daddy's company there was a strong ethic of "just take whatever class interests you."

Even tho it was the most $$$ in state public uni tuition at the time, all I could afford was the University of Vermont. The fact that a lot of rich out of state kids considered it a "public ivy" helped subsidize my scholarships. That kind of student body also engendered a very liberal arts education
