🚨It's finally here! Pre-orders for the new Sunken Tower game KOSHODO are now open!

3-6 players take on the role of Japanse ukiyo-e print publishers. Strategic trading is their craft, but beware of the shogunate's censorship! 1/4

Leveraging the latest techniques in digital humanities and the rise of AI, the project team standardized and linked 166,000 records from various datasets. They also worked with advanced text recognition (HTR) to automatically read handwritten notes from early modern students

25% of core game dev jobs lost in Germany since 2023 is just an absolutely wild number.

"Compared to 2023, this means that around 25 percent of jobs in the industry have been lost."

Haven't received as many contributions as usual for this year's lists--could be many things, but one aspect is surely that our ability to get this in front of people is much diminished. If you know folks whose stuff should be on here, please suggest it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...

The smorgasbord of tax increases has just acquired its smallest and feeblest contribution, as a bottle of Yakult is quietly added to the buffet.

(Am reliably told they excepted milk-based drinks because it looked silly taxing yogurt that advertised itself as healthy, silly though that is.)

This is one hell of a scenario, in the sense that it puts a tight timeline on a massive global shift ánd that one struggles to find a good counterpoint.
A new Cold War is coming based less on ideological difference than a clash over the metabolic basis of modern industrial society. Here's one scenario for how that could play out (my latest for the newly launched Antikythera journal from MIT Press): hemstacks.antikythera.org/climatelevia...

One of our newest treasures: an #earlymodern Catechismus Romanus bound with a 1613 #manuscript student notebook of Jesuit Cornelius a Lapide’s lectures at Leuven. A wonderfully personalized & used book with a doodle of a long-nosed (😉) figure by its unknown owner.

I find it very pleasing that sometime around 1040, an Icelandic skald addressed the king of the Norwegians as "sinjórr", showing that already at this early stage the French vocabulary for lordship had entered the Nordic world.
