This was never a sustainable path and now we're left with too few buses on the best of days, let alone enough to cover for an LRT service disruption.

All the traits that you have been taught to value and look for in special individuals - courage, intelligence, strength - are actually collective traits. There is no genius or hero coming to save us from our problems. We solve them together or not at all. Socialism or barbarism.
I have never witnessed such a spiderweb of collective action, just average everyday people showing up. Not the heroism we’ve been sold by the movies but collective heroism, a fabric of care and resistance to fascism.

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

For years, Watterson battled against pressure from publishers to merchandise his work, something that he felt would cheapen his comic through compromising the act of creation or reading.[21][22]
He refused to merchandise his creations on the grounds that displaying Calvin and Hobbes images on commercially sold mugs, stickers, and T-shirts would devalue the characters and their personalities. Watterson said that Universal kept putting pressure on him and that he had signed his contract without fully perusing it because, as a new artist, he was happy just to find a syndicate willing to give him a chance (two other syndicates had previously turned him down). He added that the contract was so one-sided that, if Universal really wanted to, they could license his characters against his will, and could even fire him and continue Calvin and Hobbes with a new artist. this is why it's especially grating to me when people from small towns and the suburbs complain about what they see downtown. They do not understand that this the price of maintaining the illusion of their small town/suburb not having social issues.
