Joe would later give the nickname of "Punchy" to yours truly but I honestly think it fits him better. Joe incites a good ol' bar brawl. Burke breaks it up and declares he's going to paddle someone. Everyone in the bar looks at Burke like they might want it to be them...and who could blame 'em?

Establishing Collinwood as the giant of the town right off the bat by declaring it to have 40 rooms. The conversation and the camera angles also set the tone for the house itself to be a main character in the show.

What I really love about the first episode is how we first see everyone. Victoria on the train seeking, Elizabeth framed behind the crosshatching of the window pane like bars, Roger pouring a brandy from a crosshatched decanter (his own prison), each of them alone.

Welcome to Pride Month! This month I remind people that the Blue Whale was originally named the Rainbow Bar in the Dark Shadows story bible. Then I giggle (in a manly way). It would be decades before the rainbow became about the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement...but Dark Shadows was from the start.
