If loving bollards is wrong I don't want to be right

Until World Bollard comes over from the dark side here’s some hot bollard action from the Strand Aldwych London
Something has to give if successive governments have not increased fuel duty since 2011, continually subsidise driving, and you need to fill a financial black hole. Pay-per-mile is the answer
Will pay-per-mile raise Reeves money or drive people away from electric vehicles?
Need for new road taxes is clear – but there are concerns that pricing plan could stall transition away from petrol

Nearly 600,000 cycle journeys in less than 2 months since the counter was reset, averaging about 9,700 trips per day. This number surpasses all motor traffic. This week has seen freezing temperatures, but that hasn't deterred cyclists. They are a hardy bunch @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

Since the counter was fixed, well over half a million cycle journeys have been made in less than two months. At peak times, records show that rush hour traffic consists of 250 motor vehicles ph in the am & 350 in the pm, considerably less than the number of bikes. Time for another cycle lane

Before smartphones, many Londoners would have an A-Z handy to navigate London, first published in 1936. It's good to see Central London, A to Z style, on the panniers of a London Ambulance E-Bike. The bicycle is still the quickest way to get to someone in Central London after all these years

Everything about driving is heavily subsidised to maintain your car dependency. This is a start

I've waited a lifetime for a safe, separated cycle lane on Theobalds Road to protect me from impatient drivers. Cyclists outnumber motorised vehicles on this stretch of road, so it's only fair that the balance shifts toward more efficient modes of transport. Well done, Camden Council

8 a.m. this morning on a very chilly but beautiful day, a month since the counter was fixed, 339,000+ journeys by bicycle in one month. Imagine if they were car journeys; cycle lanes benefit everyone. @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

Happy new LTN week to those who celebrate.

In a borough with the lowest car ownership per household in London (26%), drivers are still frothing at the consequences of their own actions: driving. It's no longer just about you.

Regardless of whether the average speed in central London is between 8.7 mph and 7.1 mph, there will still be someone who complains about the new markings at St John Street, Smithfield, part of the transformation to make it more pedestrian and cycle-friendly

At 9am this week, another 80,000+ bike journeys along the Embankment. To put this in perspective, there are more bike journeys per hour in this 1 lane than there are in the 4 motor vehicle lanes on the same route. If you want to get cities moving, build more cycle lanes @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

Here are 10 cyclists taking up the space of approximately one car.

In London, 60% of car trips are single-occupant

Last week, over 85,000 cycle journeys were recorded along the Embankment, ≈ 500 + journeys ph. Peak hours show ≈ 250 motor vehicles AM and ≈ 350 PM, significantly fewer than the number of cyclists. Time to add another cycle lane for more efficient transport @willnorman.co.uk @london.gov.uk
Should be 200,000+ cycle journeys today in 2.5 weeks on the Embankment since the counter was fixed on the 24th of September. Chefs kiss London. @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

It's impressive how quickly Paris has transformed car-dominant roads, prioritising more efficient modes of transportation. One lane for drivers on the right side, made to wallow in their own stop-and-start inefficiency, two giant lanes for bikes.

80000+ cycle journeys in Autumnal weather this week along the Embankment. Tell me cycling is not popular in London. The counter was fixed last week @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

After not working for three months, it's been fixed in the last few days. London was well on its way to passing 3 million cycle journeys on this route, a new record, but I guess we will never know now. Until next year, then @cs3cs6count.bsky.social

There is still a group of Nimbys and taxi drivers who prefer this to the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street, thinking retail will close & crowds disappear. If only Oxford St had at least 6 Tube lines and several stations within walking distance, connecting all of London, then maybe, this might work
