Only managed to grab 2 usable photos of this male Sparrowhawk today, he wasn't hanging about. Wish I wasn't zoomed in so much when he took off I'd like to have got all the wing in. However I still captured the underwing colours you don't often get to see. 08/02/26. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #nature

It’s apparently #nationalSnowdropDay and we’ve certainly seen plenty on our travels today. This attractive gathering was located along the Gwendraeth Fach. Shame the weather had taken a turn for the worse by this point. #flowers #wildFlowerHour #nature #photography #photoHour

24/5 last night in SE Hants. Colder but less wet than forecast conditions probably cut moth numbers, as did heavy showers late afternoon/early evening. Nothing new but 6 Dotted Border was a garden record and double the previous best, for what is an uncommon moth for me #teammoth

Our Redpoll count has gone up to 3 now in our Colchester garden. With the addition of a female today. Here she was pecking around the buds of our Elder tree. Also the males were feeding on Stinging Nettle seeds that I hadn’t cut back yet. #essexbirding

Absolutely gobsmacked. One of the most amazing birding sights I’ve seen in Northumberland - here’s some of the 30 Cranes (up to 38 were reported by others) that spent the afternoon in a field next to the A1 just north of Alnwick. #NEbirding #UKbirding #birds

In the legendary song by Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts called Box Hill or Bust - they sang “Boxhill, Boxhill, ‘ere we come / I ain’t ‘appy ’til I’ve reached a ton”

Maybe they meant a ton of flies such as this horsefly (Haematopota pluvialis) Coll in 1952 🙌👍

Squeezed in an hour at Sandy Water Park at the end of yesterday. 4 Chiffchaff actively feeding around the wooden bridge including at least 1 of a Siberian persuasion. Sadly no sign of the Firecrest. Lovely male Goldeneye out in the middle of the lake. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birdsSeenIn2026

The red listed Mistle Thrush was frequently seen when we visited the New Forest yesterday. We even saw small flocks of up to 15 birds often mixing with Fieldfares and Redwings. Usually flighty but this one posed for the camera 😊
