Christmasified the house today in honour of my Mum who died 3 years ago today. She loved this time of year.
A modestly-sized Christmas tree sits next to the inside of a front door. It’s decorated traditionally with assorted baubles, felted shapes and strings of beads in white, red and gold, as well as simple white lights. A gold star sits at the very top. In the foreground is part of a simple armchair draped with wooden throws and a cushion with a picture of a hare on it.

Went cute and small for my advent calendar this year! Day One: a lovely little bullfinch.

Happy Stir Up Sunday everyone. Am steaming!
A large aluminium stockpot stands on a lit gas hob. Inside is a Christmas pudding (unseen). Peeking out of the side of the lid at both sides are the ends of a strip of tin foil to help lift it out at the end. Steam can be seen condensing on the underside of the lid.

As ever, Light Up Lancaster was a triumph. My sister was visiting and loved it. These were our faves.

Yesterday I lost my old faithful hot water bottle after many years service. New one arrived today and is called, apparently, Cassandra. She says she’s guaranteed for 5 years but I don’t know whether to believe her…

Well, a visit to the minor treatment unit later and I am quite literally stuck back together with surgical glue and tape. No serious harm done. Apparently washing up injuries like this are extremely common so be careful out there, kids. 😅

My suet block brings all the long-tailed tits to the yard…
Wrought iron bird feeder stand from which hangs a green cage containing a suet block. Three long-tailed tits and a great tit are hanging acrobatically from it. Another long-tailed tit is perched on a shallow dish waiting a turn.

There were gooseberries on the market today so apple & gooseberry tart had to be done!

In a Lyon square overlooked by apartment buildings is an ornate bronze fountain on a stone plinth. The statue part shows a goddess driving a chariot drawn by four straining horses, which in a strange little touch, have webbed feet!
