Yeah, our church does a monthly collection of potatoes and onions for another parish in the diocese that has a food program. There may be some program that can either use those to cook a meal or to hand out.

Yeah, I wear dresses a lot for travel because most of my travel is business travel and a dress on the day I fly home hits "business casual around colleagues while comfy for flight"

Cover your bits, don't wear strong scents, leave the spiked shoulders at home, wear a mask, that's all I ask. I care so little about what other people are wearing on the plane unless it impacts me!

And there are lots of shelf-stable microwave foods! Various soups, Mac & cheese, flavored (or plain) rice, popcorn obviously. Plus you can cook with it - baked potatoes, a quesadilla in a pinch, eggs, cake. (In your shoes I might also throw a cookbook in with it to inspire her)

Microwave? Still have the no-freezer problem but can heat other things (including microwave baked potatoes) and no exposed heating element so safer from a fire POV

Also some kids do well in school without much effort and some put in a lot of effort but get less "reward" in terms of grades/test scores.
