I do keep getting ads for a gender expansive lingerie company (I assume because I also pause on the hot bearded non-binary models in nightgowns, because bisexual) but I haven't seen like, fabulous fancy smoking robes, for instance. More lux beautiful men's night wear!

It's not the first time I've done this, and it almost certainly won't be the last. 🤷

Sorry to the boutique lingerie company whose underwear I'm never going to buy but whose model is very hot.

Pez this is literally the ideal time for the meatloaf

Also like I specifically grew up poor in the back of Alano clubs while my mom was getting sober so I have a pretty high tolerance for baked in cigarette smoke smell. But I don't like PREFER it.

I grew up too poor to be fucking up people's bags unless it's like, life or limb, you know??

I personally hate the concept of "empty" calories, as if some units of energy are more correct than others, but if I had to venture a guess I'd say the soup adds umami, adds silkiness to the mouth feel, and provides salt for home cooks who might tend to under salt, which are all useful.

I couldn't say, since I've never made it without. I suspect it's mostly a holdover from, well, 1970s Michigan where it came from. I am merely the keeper of the ancient ways, replicating the childhood memories.

No they just put out two turkeys and everyone (including him) ate the other one. NO idea why he kept making one, but 🤷

Are they . . . Getting the band back together?

I don't recommend dicing one, boiling it, and then putting the boiled unseasoned cubes --with no butter or fat of any kind-- in a serving dish. As preparation methods go, not in my top 10.

One year I made a root veg gratin with parsnips and turnips and a lot of beautiful cream and she was kind of like, but we already have the rutabaga. 😂 No worries! We can have both!

Mine grew up in a poor home, a preacher's kid, during the depression, in the Midwest, and then she and my grandfather were UU from when it was just U and U (I don't remember if they were Unitarians or Universalists first), which I think involved a lot of grain casseroles.

Was your family's also not seasoned like AT ALL? Because I love a roasted root veg with a nice spice blend but ...

I was proud of it!

That was viral on tiktok for awhile, and I feel like the answer is that it makes the dough stay moist?

My dad is a total shit weasel, kind of a creep, and does not, as far as I can tell, understand how to love another person, but he's right about Thanksgiving burritos.
November 25, 2025 at 2:43 AM
It's true, you need the MSG.
November 25, 2025 at 2:33 AM
In theory just to reconstitute the soup, which already has cream, but I admit I use broth. Because... Milk??
November 25, 2025 at 2:31 AM
Oof yeah. We traditionally do matzo ball soup at Thanksgiving for.... Long complicated historical reasons... But my dad always just made the Manischewitz box.
November 25, 2025 at 2:22 AM
Chef Toni is a huge fan of the books and really chose each dish with so much love. The soup is because Mrs. Matthews lets Levi try his Spanish-inspired matzo ball soup recipe at second seder, the meatloaf is from the diner scene, the cupcakes are from the festival where they dance.
