I don't know where the "Lalafell are based on toddlers, SE artists traced over toddlers to draw them" came from but it's just literally not true, all the main FFXIV races are based on FFXI races, one of which is the Tarutaru, who are based on chipmunks - that's where the smudge-nose-mark comes from
