Ongoing fighting in Syria between the STG and the SDF is not about west and east of the Euphrates. Damascus wants full control over territory, means of violence and resources. Redefining the front lines is a means to force the SDF to the negotiation table in this direction.

I'm not sharing much of the news today because the situation is unclear. There's definitely attacks on all the fronts with HTS, and something else in Deir Ez Zour. I've seen wildly conflicting reports on almost everything else.

In the middle of all of this the revolution might topple the government of Iran and I feel like that's not getting any attention at all

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

What's happening in Aleppo is ethnic cleansing. Cheered on by Turkey, permitted by the EU and the US.

I suspect it comes from honor/modesty culture, which has cultural and religious roots. It will have filtered through the ML ideology and come out as something like "sex before marriage is bourgois decadence", but I consider that an excuse for views they already had rather than a genuine analysis.

But for now, Ciwanên Şoreşgerî is a well entrenched counter revolutionary force. Until that changes, treat everything they do with scepticism and avoid working with them like the plague.

There are steps that can be taken to disempower the leadership and recapture the organisation, and I'm confident these are being taken. Mostly because CŞ cadres have whined at me extensively about them, and feel like everyone else is working together to marginalise them.

The rest of the movement is very aware of these problems. The options for dealing with it are limited because CŞ is an autonomous and independent organisation, and because DAANES law makes it very hard to ban political organisations.

Examples include beating up young couples in parks for holding hands, attacking demonstrations, and beating and publicly humiliating SDF veterans who criticised local councils.

CŞ's actions in society reflect these reactionary values. Rather than actually working to build up the revolution, they focus on enforcing social conservatism. They're often to the right of general society, and their actions are often widely condemned and cause problems for the PYD.

For example, advancement in the women's wing of CŞ requires suitable public displays of hostility towards other women, to demonstrate that they will always side with male leadership and uphold patriarchy within the structure.

This has led to changes in the content of education, and to ideological pressures on anyone who wants to advance in the organisation, leading to further reactionary radicalisation.

The PYD's autonomous Youth structure is Ciwanên Şoreşgerî. It has two major problems. First, the definition of "youth" has no age limit, which has allowed careerism and associated liberalism to happen. Second, the leadership positions have been captured by misogynist conservatives.

(And in general I think that's really important, especially given how Diplomacy inherently fills up with liberals, and I think youth liberation is both a vital goal of any liberation struggle and a key part of making our movements safe and actually revolutionary)

The autonomy of the Youth, in theory, helps to control liberalism and careerism among Party cadres - the Youth, who are assumed to be relatively free of these things, are able to hold older cadres to account and cannot be held back from effective action by them.

The structure of the PYD is based closely on the structure of the PKK. The PKK has autonomous structures for women and the youth - the central committee can ask them to do things but can't give orders or interfere in their command structures.

I'm not the only person with this analysis of CŞ. I've spoken to a lot of people in Rojava and DAANES, heard a wide range of opinions on almost everything, and I've never heard anyone outside of CŞ say anything positive about CŞ. Many people, including Mazlum Abdi, have called for them to be banned.

The only exception to this is that people often used to say "Ciwanên Şoreşgerî are terrible, except for the Tel Tamr branch, who are great." But CŞ leadership got rid of everyone who was in charge there and replaced them with new people who upset eveyone, and now the branch is defunct.

And to be clear: everything they have done here goes against the ideology of Democratic Confederalism, goes against the policies and laws of the Autonomous Administration, and does not reflect the attitudes or values of the movement or of society as a whole.

It's a shame to lose the Commune, because it has important roles. But it isn't doing those roles and we've already lost it to a reactionary party-within-the-party, so it's time to cut our losses. They can't be removed because CŞ protects them, so they need to be sidelined.

I did manage to reiterate our initial demands, which they said were "too difficult". From these interactions it's clear that no change has happened, and that no change will happen. It was also clear that we had exhausted all the formal routes for complaint.

Last year I contacted the Commune again to see if there was any progress. They responded with anger, accusations, and insinuations about my loyalty to the revolution. They then refused to meet, and reported me to my reveberi as an operational security risk for asking too many times.

As part of this report, we made a number of initial demands, including renaming the Commune (it's named after Ş Hêlîn Qereçox, who would have burned the place down), putting all female comrades in touch with the women's movement, and issuing a self criticism. None of these were met.
