North Carolina based. Orchid, bromeliad, and general plant enthusiast. Here for the bloomscrolling, which is approximately 8% healthier for me than the alternative.
Tipularia discolor, the Cranefly Orchid. #orchids These bloom in the summer after dropping their deciduous leaf. The foliage is actually the main visual draw for this species, in my opinion. And this time of year is prime viewing season, since very little other foliage has sprouted. Saw lots today.

Polystachya neobenthamia is one of the oldest orchids in my collection, a testament to its vigor and ease of care. #orchids #bloomscrolling Large plants that bloom, bloom, bloom. Flowers are scented like vanilla sugar cookies and a hint of wintergreen candy.

Epidendrium magnoliae is in bloom! AKA Greenfly Orchid. Northern most range for an epiphytic orchid in North America. Flowers are small with a strong fragrance at night, similar to 4 o'clocks. I grow this because of its cold tolerance and also grow a number of its hybrids. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Dendrobium Magenta's Carronatum, which is D. carronii x D. antennatum. I struggle with these types of Dend, and for the past 8 or 9 years this one has been no exception. Blooms regularly but the growths never look great. #orchids #bloomscrolling That's Corymbia citriodora behind it.

Today is yet another sad and disgusting day for the United States, which seems to be a common theme for the past year. Yet, it's also another reminder to reach out to your friends, family, neighbors, and community to make sure everyone is okay, and let them know that this, today, is not acceptable.

Cymbidium sinense is a wonderful, small growing species with very strongly scented flowers that have one of the sweetest fragrances of any flower. I can smell these blooms from across the room. This is relatively easy to grow and bloom by orchid standards. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Phragmipedium Sue Omeis x schlimii v. manzurii. Unregistered hybrid. Not what I expected in terms of color. The tiny flower spike is branching, though! No fragrance. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Epicatanthe Butterfly Kisses is a miniature orchid hybrid using Cattlianthe Trick or Treat and Epidendrum magnoliae. These cheery flowers brighten a cold winter day. I don't have many colorful magnoliae hybrids, so this one gets to stay even though it isn't fragrant. #orchids #bloomscrolling

This is a complex Paphiopedilum hybrid. The tag is so old that the name has faded, so I will have to do some research later to figure out the ID. #orchids #bloomscrolling It's a lovely flower, I should grow more of this type of hybrid.

Paphiopedilum Bailey's Bid is a hybrid between Paph henryanum and Paph fowliei. This is a miniature sized slipper orchid from breeding of Ross Hella at Deerwood Orchids, one of my favorite vendors who produces miniature slipper orchids. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Paphiopedilum Golden Palace is a hybrid of Memoria Larry Heuer x armeniacum. This cultivar has low quality flowers, but it blooms frequently, grows easily, and stays small. Mottled foliage is stunning and the bright yellow flowers bring a spark of color to my plant stands. #orchids #bloomscrolling

A close up photo of Phragmipedium caricinum, currently in bloom. What the "green" Phrag species lack in color, they make up for it with intricate patterns of stripes, spots, splotches, tessellation, and other interesting features - like the eyebrows on the staminode. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Just to prove that I'm not an orchid addict, here is a non-orchid plant in my collection. After all, would an orchid addict have room for something like this? This is Euphorbia aeruginosa currently in bloom. #bloomscrolling

Close up of the glowing interior lip of a Phragmipedium Summer Fire currently in bloom. This is the last flower on this spike that's been in bloom for months now. This sequentially blooming Phrag hybrid is a cross between sargentianum and klotzschianum. #orchids #phragmipedium #bloomscrolling

Cattleya Small World is one of my favorite #orchids in my collection. Small growing, fits under lights, easy to bloom, pretty colors, and fragrant blooms. This is a primary hybrid between aclandiae and luteola. Here it is, a couple hours after the buds first popped open.

This NOID Cymbidium was a gift over a decade ago. I didn't think I could bloom it in my climate, but once I did it, this encouraged me to expand into Cymbs. Flowers are long lived and have a pleasant orange peel + grass scent. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Arundina graminifolia is typically a large, tall growing orchid up to several meters high. In contrast, this cultivar tops out at around 1 foot (0.3 m). #orchids #bloomscrolling It blooms off and on throughout the year. Flowers are short lived by orchid standards, but are produced sequentially.

Paph. Santana is still going strong despite the age of the flower and the fact that it has made an appearance at several events outside the grow room. I don't grow many complex Paphs, but this one's managed to stick around all these years. #orchids #paphiopedilum #bloomscrolling

Epicyclia Memoria Norman Wood is a cross between two North American epiphytic #orchids Encyclia tampensis and Epidendrum magnoliae. More of a botanical curiosity than a showstopper, but pretty in its own way if you're into this sort of thing. This is in the #Cattleya alliance. Cold tolerant.

Bepi. Green Dragon nearly always has at least one flower spike on it at a minimum and is rarely out of bloom. This hybrid is Epidendrum magnoliae X Brassavola nodosa. Flowers are fragrant day and night, but strongest in the evening, and smell like B. nodosa. Small growing and easy, too. #orchids

When's smell-o-vision going to become a reality? Because we need it for this hybrid. This is Procatavola Wufong Jade and it smells amazing. It's a relatively small growing Cattleya-type orchid that grows well under lights, and blooms regularly with proportionally large flowers.
