'Ringu' helped spur a new thread of more emotional/psychological horror and ghost story cinema. Definitely influenced by MR James, in particular 'Casting The Runes'.

Back in 1984, when what remained of the British film industry was all about frightfully worthy things like empire and athletics, 'The Company Of Wolves' was a most un-British British film. Dream state and properly surreal.
