Anti-armor is a bit of a misnomer, because essentially all weapons of war are anti-personal-armor, but early polearms and battle axes and such are better at punching through scale and chainmail armor. Punching through steel plate with a melee weapon is effectively impossible, this the hammer.

For most of human history the technology isn't really there to armor people enough for this to be the case, which is why heavier anti-armor weapons are generally edged before stuff like full plate comes into the picture, and even a solid chunk of the time after.

That's not really true, a sword would generally have longer reach for a given weight category and have way more angles of attack. A hammer is more effective in high-armor contexts where a cutting edge is less useful and blunt force is the critical factor.

costco understands the tucking assignment. unironically the company i would point to as being the most positive example of capitalism. avoiding the fell for it again awards left and right for decades, is an overall contributor to public wellness and happiness despite self interested incentives
