Study shows when drivers can't see the road, crashes are likely. Only in America would this have to be studied. And only in America would it be studied, proven and ignored.

Roadway safety is not our highest priority. It is not any kind of priority.
New study finds that "vehicles with large driver-side blind zones are much more likely to strike crossing pedestrians while turning left."

Which vehicles have big driver-side blind zones? Those with thick A-pillars, bulky side mirrors, and tall hoods—i.e., big SUVs and trucks.
Vehicles with big blind zones spell danger to pedestrians during left turns
A large driver-side blind zone raises the risk of striking a pedestrian during a left turn by 70%, a new IIHS study shows.

"Despite abundant evidence of dangers, state and city agencies have been slow to invest in improvements such as safer places to cross or take steps to curb vehicle speeds..."

How does this not open the agencies to liability???

"The number of locations with at least three recent pedestrian deaths clustered within a mile of one another tripled during this period, from more than 275 in 2010 to more than 825 in 2023, The Post found."

Wide roads and fast-moving vehicles — especially when combined with signs of poverty, homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse, and a lack of pedestrian-focused roadway improvements — produced a pattern of death-by-vehicle that is uniquely American.

Maybe it can finally kill the business-as-usual bipartisan approach to reauthorization.

2. The law did not always result in less funding for polluting projects.
3. Many IIJA programs reinforced existing inequities by rewarding jurisdictions with greater preexisting resources.
